The Black-Barred Danio (Danio nigrofasciatus) is a striking freshwater fish known for its bold, contrasting coloration and lively behavior. Native to the rivers and streams of Southeast Asia, particularly in countries like Myanmar and Thailand, this species is a popular choice among aquarium enthusiasts due to its active nature and eye-catching appearance. The Black-Barred Danio is relatively small, typically growing to a length of about 2 to 2.5 inches, making it suitable for both small and medium-sized aquariums.

The defining feature of the Black-Barred Danio is its distinct black horizontal stripes that run across its translucent body. These dark bars, set against a silvery or golden base, give the fish a unique look, making it easily recognizable. Depending on the individual and lighting conditions, the fish may also display a slight iridescent sheen, enhancing its overall visual appeal. Due to their active swimming, they do well in tanks with plenty of open space for swimming, as well as plants and decorations to explore.

As omnivores, Black-Barred Danios have a varied diet that can include high-quality flakes, micro pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A balanced diet is essential for maintaining their vibrant colors and overall health.

With proper care, including regular water changes, stable water conditions, and a varied diet, Black-Barred Danios can live 3 to 5 years in captivity. Their peaceful temperament, energetic behavior, and striking appearance make them a fantastic addition to community aquariums, where they can coexist with other small species while contributing to the visual dynamism of the tank.
