The Vatersay Rasbora (Rasbora vaterayi) is a peaceful and small freshwater fish that originates from Southeast Asia. While not as commonly found in aquarium stores as other Rasbora species, it is highly valued for its attractive appearance and relatively easy care requirements.

This species has a peaceful temperament and is well-suited for community tanks, especially when kept in schools of at least six fish. Its small size (1.5-2 inches) makes it ideal for smaller aquariums, although a minimum tank size of 10 gallons is recommended for proper care.

Vatersay Rasboras are omnivores and will accept a wide variety of foods, including commercially available flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms. They thrive in slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. The water hardness should be kept within the range of 5-12 dGH, and the temperature should be maintained between 72-80°F (22-27°C).

As with most Rasbora species, the Vatersay Rasbora is an active swimmer that enjoys the company of its own kind. It is best kept in groups, which helps reduce stress and encourages natural behavior. Providing plenty of swimming space as well as some plant cover is ideal for their well-being.

In terms of care, the Vatersay Rasbora is considered easy to moderate, making it a great option for both beginner and intermediate aquarists. It is particularly suitable for peaceful community tanks with other small, non-aggressive species.

Due to its less common availability, the Vatersay Rasbora may require some effort to find in aquarium stores, but it can make a unique and attractive addition to any aquarium.
